Old Definition of “Disability”

Traditionally, there are two different viewpoints in understanding what is “disability”, namely the “medical model” and the “social model”.

The medical model refers to the bodily injury caused by disease or accident in explaining the physical, psychological and social problems faced by persons with disabilities. In 1980, the World Health Organization (WHO) adopted the International Classification of Impairments, Disabilities and Handicaps (ICIDH) primarily based on the medical model.....
