Service Information

Program Details

Care for the Carers (formerly “Carers Hotline”) is a service sponsored by The Community Chest. It mainly provides case counseling and comprehensive support services for carers of persons with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and dementia. Service coverage includes most areas in Hong Kong (excluding Outlying Islands).

Target Group

Hong Kong residents, with no restrictions on age, gender, or race
Carers of persons with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and dementia (excluding paid domestic helpers and care workers)

Service Objectives

1. Provide professional counseling services by registered social workers through outreach home visits to carers of persons with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and dementia, supporting them in effectively managing personal emotions and stress, and promoting family inclusion.

2. Promote carers’ awareness of their physical, mental, and spiritual health, assisting them in objectively assessing their caring capacity and needs, planning healthy and supportive care plans, and ensuring adaptability when facing changes.

3. Mobilize experienced carers by training them to become “Carer Companions” to serve as instructors or speakers in support groups and public activities, sharing caring experiences and personal interests to build a peer support network.

4. Enhance public understanding of carers of persons with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and dementia through community events, working together to build a carer-friendly community.
