【Hong Kong PHAB Association News】To mark the significant milestone of the 30th anniversary of the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), Hong Kong PHAB Association (the Association) is privileged to partner with the EOC to co-organise a series of experiential activities to promote the values of equal opportunities, diversity, and inclusion to the public free of charge.
The EOC announced today (10 July 2026) that it is collaborating with the Association and four other non-governmental organisations and social enterprises to launch a series of experiential activities from this July until the first quarter of next year. More than 60 sessions will be held across Hong Kong, covering various themes such as disability inclusion, gender equality, carer needs, and multiculturalism, with over a thousand participants expected to attend.
As a partner in this campaign, the Association has specially curated the “Empathy in Motion: Exploring the Community in a Wheelchair” experiential activity, aiming to bring you a unique perspective through our experience in PHAB inclusion.
♿ About “Empathy in Motion: Exploring the Community in a Wheelchair”
Do you ever wonder what stories lie hidden in the streets you rush through every day? If you viewed the world from a different perspective, would the familiar scenery look completely different? 👀
This is not just a typical guided tour, but an immersive experience combining “community tour” and “wheelchair exploration”! The activity features two core highlights:
- Guided by Disabled and Able-bodied Mentors 🧭: Led jointly by both disabled and able-bodied mentors, participants will experience navigating the community in a wheelchair, gaining firsthand insight into the importance of accessible facilities for the daily lives of people with disabilities.
- Role Switching and Perspective Shifting 🤝🏻: Participants will switch roles between being “the wheelchair user” and “the carer”. This will allow you to understand the feelings of individuals from both perspectives, put “inclusion” into practice, and reflect on how we can eliminate various social barriers by changing our attitudes and improving our environment.

Ms Linda Lam Mei-sau, Chairperson of the EOC, stated that building a diverse, equal, and inclusive society requires citizens to practice and support the spirit of diversity and inclusion in their daily lives. These experiential activities, launched in collaboration with five partner organisations including the Association, aim to provide opportunities for the public to interact with individuals from different backgrounds, thereby eliminating discrimination and misunderstanding.
Apart from the wheelchair exploration activity hosted by the Association, the EOC’s 30th-anniversary series also includes a blindfolded running experience with the Hong Kong Network for the Blind and Deaf Mentors, women's empowerment workshops with the Hong Kong Single Parents Association and the Hong Kong Women Workers' Association, and multicultural tours with WEDO GLOBAL.
